When God says: " Love you enemies, bless those that curse you and do good to them that despitefully use you," it is not just so you can reap coals of fire on their heads. No! It is for you......to get you to develop the character of God. God knows naturally that we couldn't do it; neither does the flesh wants to do it, but in following God's word we are instructed to be like him. To do what is right; what is difficult. In doing so you prove that you are his children.
The flesh could not do it. Nor could the flesh obey God. Only those who are lead by his spirit can and will submit to this way.
Try it: It might be a fight at first because the flesh doesn't want to submit or give up, but make it line up to God's word. Now let me just say this: Praying for your enemies, and not meaning it is easy! We all have done it, but to REALLY PRAY (huh!) for them with true love; like as if you are praying for yourself or a loved one that is the difficult part. This requires God imparting his strength in you. Nevertheless the fight; you can do it! With God all things are possible. We must truly learn how to love our enemies with REAL love. (Not secretly wishing them harm.) Not being glad when they get their punishment back either. If you are happy to see your enemy get his/her punishment; then you have not yet mastered God's character. Remember that is your ULTIMATE GOAL------that is to be like him. GBU
